Donate Towards Lifesaving Medical Care

Since sharing Seven’s story, so many of you have reached out asking how you can help. We are deeply grateful, and we want to share where things stand and why your support matters so much right now.

Seven was taken into our care on December 31, when our Animal Control Officers were finally able to safely catch her in the Elmwood area after several days of trying to get close. Once she was contained, the full extent of her suffering became clear. While we do not know exactly how her injuries occurred, we strongly suspect she may have been struck by a train, given the location where she was found near the tracks.

Seven arrived in critical condition with devastating, life-threatening injuries, including a traumatic, non-medical amputation of her right hind leg, the loss of part of her tail, a severe injury to her front right leg with exposed bone and infection, and extensive damage to her teeth, jaw, gums, and face. These wounds are extremely painful and were badly infected, requiring immediate and intensive medical intervention.

Our medical team sprang into action upon her arrival, and Seven was stabilized, splinted, and casted. Her wounds are being treated with manuka honey, and she is receiving fluids, antibiotics, pain medication, and around-the-clock monitoring and TLC from our staff. While she remains in critical condition, she is fighting, and our team is fighting with her, giving her every possible chance to heal.

Caring for animals like Seven is not simple, and it is not inexpensive, but it is what we are here to do. Her outcome is still uncertain, yet her care, and the care of every animal who arrives at our doors in crisis, depends entirely on the support of this community.
