You could see Stewart's skull. Even his sinuses were exposed.

On February 18th, Stewart was brought to us by the police department after a man found him curled up next to the pen of his outdoor beagle. He was actively bleeding from his face and leg, with deep open wounds and gashes across his head.

We don’t know exactly what happened, but his injuries appear consistent with bite wounds, likely from a dog to dog altercation. Nearly all of the trauma was focused on his head.

Our medical team immediately got to work.

For the first few days, Stewart required intensive care, including wet to dry tie over bandages to help protect the wound and start the healing process. After a couple of days, we transitioned to medical honey spray to help fight infection and promote healing.

Day by day, with careful wound management and lots of attention from our medical team, Stewart started to improve.

Now he no longer needs bandages. His wounds are continuing to close, and he’s down to a topical cream as the final step in his healing.

And through it all, Stewart has remained incredibly sweet. Despite the pain and everything he’s been through, he has been gentle, trusting, and so loving with our staff.

If you would like to donate to Stewart’s ongoing care and help animals like him and other severe medical cases that come through our doors, please consider donating to support medical care costs for Stewart and his friends.

Thank you to all of our supporters for your continued compasison and generosity.
